I had suspicions when I woke up that morning but after some more (to be expected) probing about what Ian might have gotten me for our 6 months coffee date I had concluded that there was no way we were getting engaged that day and I had to make sure that I was really convinced of this so that I wouldn't be too disappointed when it didn't happen. It was interesting, however, that Ian's hands were sweaty the whole way to and through church that morning, and that's not normal haha. He commenting on how it was so weird but that it must have been the lotion he put on (even AFTER he had washed his hands)... that really should have been my first clue but he really had me convinced that it was not happening....
After church we went to our favorite Chapters and Starbucks combination and enjoyed a lovely and much anticipated coffee. Now looking back, Ian didn't seem too keen on browsing the store like we normally would he just heading straight back to our favorite seats near the back of Chapters with my present in hand :) There were a couple times while I was eating my cheese croissant when Ian tried to hand me the back and I guess I just kind of ignored it because I had greasy fingers and afterwards felt a little silly. After I was finished he handed me the bag and inside was a wrapped box that looked like a shoebox, at that point I had zilch idea what could be inside. It turned out to be an old mini blender box. Still stumped. I opened the box and saw the top of a travel mug which was so exciting because I was needing a new travel mug, one of mine broke and the other leaks :( so yay!
When I took it out I noticed that it was one of those "decorate it yourself" mugs and on it were block letters reading "WILL YOU MARRY ME" I looked up and could only muster an unbelieving "really?" and Ian said "yes" with a smile and said "open it." Everything after that point went so quickly, it's a bit of a blur and I had to ask Ian exactly everything that was said. Inside the travel mug was the ring. being kind of a keener I just put it right on my finger and then Ian asked if I wanted him to put it on my finger. Well of course I did, so I gave it back to him and then he got down on one knee and said "Michelle, I love you so much and want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?" (or something very similar to that) and I said "yes!" And then we laughed and hugged and kissed and took a picture. It all went so fast, we left right away to call our parents we didn't even finish our drinks.
The ring is beautiful and delicate :) Unfortunately, it was too big and at the moment it's somewhere being sized to fit my finger. Hopefully by the 21st it will be sitting nicely where it belongs on my finger again :) hehe
That is our engagement story and I love it!
Congratulations!! So happy for you both! Love you much!
